Julie ABBOTT-KENAN

Onondaga County Legislator

Julie is our current Onondaga County Legislator whose leadership roles include Chairwoman of the Health and Human Services Committee, Vice- Chair of the Planning and Economic Development Committee, and member of the Environmental Protection Committee.  Julie also serves on the CNY Regional Planning and Development Board, the Onondaga County Soil & Water Conservation District Board, the County’s Council for the Environment along with the Deer and Tick Advisory Committee, as well as the Skaneateles Police Department’s Advisory board. Additionally, Julie is a former Vice President of the Skaneateles School Board and a member of the Strategic Planning, Communications, Wellness, and Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Committees. After studying Speech Communication in the Department of Rhetorical Studies at Syracuse University, Julie worked as a Television Producer, News Anchor, Investigative Journalist, Schools Reporter, and Talk Show Host most notably for Syracuse Affiliate ABC WSYR NewsChannel 9. An avid and dedicated volunteer, Julie has held various volunteer roles with the Onondaga County School Safety Task Force, Vera House, Syracuse City Schools Reading Program, the Red House , along with coaching her boy’s sports teams to name a few.

Julie continues to be an instrumental voice throughout the pandemic in ensuring responsible stewardship of tax dollars and resources on behalf of her shareholders. Whether it’s supporting our local businesses through streetscape grants, garnering resources for rural internet access, or securing monies for local park improvements, Julie works tirelessly to improve the  quality of life of her constituents. She is a passionate advocate for investing in our infrastructure and protecting our national resources, including  Skaneateles and Otisco Lakes, to ensure that we have safe drinking water, as we responsibly leverage our vast abundance of clean water for real economic opportunity.

Whether it is investing in our children or our infrastructure, she believes we have a responsibility to make decisions based on what is best for the next generation. Onondaga County is a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family and Julie looks forward to working with her colleagues in the County Legislature to make it even better.
