Guido VANDERVEN
Town Councilor
Guido is seeking election for the position of Skaneateles Town Board Councilor in the upcoming election. As your Town Councilor, his focus will be on fiscal responsibility and transparency:
Operate the town budget within the limits of the New York State Property Tax Cap.
Begin each budget cycle with a “clean slate” requiring justification for all expenses (zero-based budgeting).
Allow voters to weigh in by referendum on large new projects.
Keep Austin Park a park.
Support development that enhances our town while protecting our natural resources.
Guido and his family have been residents of Skaneateles since 2001. He has actively served the community through his participation on local boards and volunteering with local organizations. He served on the Skaneateles Recreational Charitable Trust (SRCT) during the $4.5 million expansion of the community center. While serving on the SRCT, he played an instrumental role in moving the center’s electricity supplier from NatGrid to Skaneateles Electric which saved the center $80,000/year at the time. He has also served on the board of the Skaneateles Country Club, including as Treasurer. He currently can be seen from time to time driving for Laker Limo.
Guido has spent his entire professional career working in economics and finance. Early on, he was an economist with the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. He later worked for Chemical Bank and spent 20 years with Sallie Mae working in corporate finance. Guido has been an adjunct professor of corporate finance at SUNY Oswego and economics at Onondaga Community College. His financial background along with a strong fiscal conservative belief system in government spending makes Guido an excellent steward for “your money”.
