Matthew DORAN

Onondaga County Court Judge

Judge Doran was elected as an Onondaga County Court Judge in November 2016 and was appointed Supervisory Judge for the Onondaga County Court in 2024. He is running as an incumbent for Onondaga County Court Judge in 2026.

 

Prior to joining the bench, Judge Doran served in the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office from 1998 to 2016. During his tenure, he personally prosecuted homicide cases, and oversaw the Homicide, Special Victims, and DWI and Vehicular Crimes Bureaus. Earlier in his career, he served on active duty as a Naval Officer in the United States Navy JAG Corps and continued his service in the Navy Reserve for more than two decades, including mobilization to active duty following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. He retired from the Navy in 2024 with more than thirty years of total service.

 

In addition to his judicial service, Judge Doran has served as an Adjunct Professor at Columbia College and currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management. He earned his law degree from Albany Law School, his undergraduate degree from St. Lawrence University, and is a graduate of Westhill High School. He volunteers in many youth sports and other community organizations. Judge Doran is married to Bénédicte Doran, and they have three children, Jack, William, and Harrison.
