Laurie COFFEY

Skaneateles Town Supervisor

Laurie is running in 2026 for Town Supervisor in Skaneateles. She is a retired Lieutenant Commander from the US Navy where she served as a fighter pilot, a pilot instructor and in fighter squadron leadership. After obtaining her law degree from Syracuse university, she is now an attorney for the Onondaga County Department of Children and Family Services. She has a daughter in 10th grade attending Skaneateles High School.

Lieutenant Commander (Retired) Laurie N. Coffey is a native of Corning, New York, and a proud resident of Skaneateles.

Following graduation at the United States Naval Academy, she was selected to fly fighter jets in the United States Navy at a time when women made up less than one-half of one percent of tactical aviators—less than a decade after the combat exclusion was lifted. She flew the F/A-18 Hornet in combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, completing more than 25 combat missions and logging over 100 combat flight hours. Over the course of her career, she accumulated more than 2,400 flight hours and over 300 aircraft carrier landings—more than half of them at night, in some of the most demanding conditions in military aviation.

Her leadership extended far beyond the cockpit. She served as a Flight and Tactics Instructor, training and mentoring the next generation of naval aviators to fly and fight in defense of this country. She later held senior operational leadership roles as both Operations Officer and Maintenance Officer in a front-line fighter squadron, responsible for mission readiness, personnel, and the execution of combat operations.

Commander Coffey also played a role in shaping the future of naval aviation, contributing to the operational testing and development of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter—ensuring that the next generation of warfighters would be equipped, trained, and ready.

Her final active-duty assignment took her overseas to Naples, Italy, where she led current operations for U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Africa and the United States Sixth Fleet—coordinating real-time operations across multiple theaters in support of U.S. and allied forces.

For her service, she has been awarded numerous personal and unit commendations, including the Navy Air Medal for her combat missions.

After retiring from 20 years of military service, she continued to lead in times of crisis, managing large-scale logistics operations for Amazon in the UK during the COVID-19 pandemic—overseeing a workforce of more than 1,000 and critical supply chain operations serving entire communities.

Committed to continued service at home, she earned her law degree from Syracuse University College of Law—working her way through school as a substitute bus driver for the Skaneateles Central School District. Today, she continues in that role, serving local families in a hands-on way that reflects her belief that no job in service to a community is too small.

She now serves as an attorney with the Onondaga County Department of Children and Family Services, where she prosecutes child abuse and neglect cases—standing in court on behalf of children who cannot speak for themselves.

Laurie is looking forward to using her extensive experience in management, logistics, finance, and teamwork to serve her Skaneateles community in the role of Town Supervisor.
